Preparing For Your First Cycle Race

For those of you who are venturing into the professional world of cycle racing, there is nothing more daunting than the prospect of entering your very first cycle race. It may sound and appear extremely tough, but with the right preparation you can successfully complete your first professional championship even if you do not end with a podium finish. Here we bring you some tips from experts on how to prepare for your very first cycle race:

TRAINING BEFORE THE RACE

It is extremely important to prepare right for your first race and proper training is the cornerstone to successfully attempting a race. Make sure you are adequately aware of the duration and course length of the actual race and practice that length over a period of time before the day of the race. Even if you have chosen one of the best bicycles to ride, you’ll need to practice the entire length beforehand. Begin with group ride stretches to help build up strength and stamina. Also, work on your fitness to build the endurance necessary to complete the race.

THE DAY BEFORE THE RACE

The day before the race is crucial and while most of it will be spent in a lot of nervousness and anticipation, you’ll need to work with a steady head. The best bike will surely smooth things out, but make sure you’ve checked all its parts and cleaned it well as bike maintenance is a necessary part of preparing for the race. Be sure to attach your repair kit and water bottle and refreshments to the bike. Also, eat right on the day before the race – eat what you regularly eat and don’t overload on anything while hydrating plenty. And don’t assume that a full day’s rest will serve you better before the race; on the day before the race, do a short preparation ride so your muscles and body are geared up for the race.

THE ACTUAL RACE

On the actual day of the race, get up in time and eat at least 3 hours before the race if possible. If you are required to carry any identification for the race, be sure to pack it and recheck if you have all the necessary gear. When beginning the race, it is important to position yourself rightly. Stay in the middle of the pack till you reach the last lap so you can conserve energy and unleash the final burst in the end stretch of the ride. Keep hydrating yourself throughout the ride. Since it will be your first race, don’t worry about winning; focus more on riding steadily and completing the race. You’ll learn a lot from just participating so don’t pressurize yourself to win the race. Learn to enjoy the race too.

Every race needs that perfect bike for a fun and comfortable ride. Get yourself a Cube bike that brings the best of German innovation with world class specifications and streamlined geometry in attractive designs for taking on every terrain. Choose from the best mountain bikes, roadster bikes, ladies and kids’ bikes and experience the thrill of cycling.
